Hi folks,
I hope this finds you well. Yesterday, reports confirmed that President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping will be meeting on Wednesday at the sidelines of the APEC Summit in San Francisco. Reuters reported that the meeting:
“is expected to cover global issues from the Israel-Hamas war to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, North Korea's ties with Russia, Taiwan, the Indo-Pacific, human rights, fentanyl, artificial intelligence, as well as “fair” trade and economic relations, senior Biden administration officials said. “Nothing will be held back; everything is on the table,” according to one U.S. official, who declined to be named, in a briefing with reporters.”
Xinhua reported:
“When commenting on a question related to China’s expectation for the China-U.S. summit meeting, the (foreign ministry) spokesperson said that at the invitation of U.S. President Joe Biden, President Xi will travel to the United States for a China-U.S. summit meeting and the 30th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting. The two presidents will have in-depth communication on issues of strategic, overarching and fundamental importance in shaping China-U.S. relations and major issues concerning world peace and development.”
In this context, I am sharing below a new episode of our All Things Policy podcast, where my colleagues Anushka Saxena, Amit Kumar and I discussed the diplomacy that has led to Xi and Biden’s upcoming meeting. Do check it out.
Cheers,
Manoj
