Here are the stories and pieces that I found noteworthy in the Saturday, October 15, 2022, edition of the People’s Daily. It’s a limited edition today, with basically the preview to the Party Congress being of value. I’ve summarised the two key articles that have been published to offer a peek at what we can expect tomorrow.
I notice you translate 底线思维 as 'bottom-line thinking'. Call me a pedant, but I strongly advise amending this in future to 'baseline thinking'. 'Bottom line' is not of course wrong and is preferable in certain contexts. But it's a figure of speech drawn from accounting. Dǐxiàn '底线' or 'baseline' has in my view a distinct and indeed older provenance, namely from games like soccer or baseball. A 'baseline' in this context is constitutive of the game itself - if you cross it you‘re 'out', etc.
QIn Hui's book《共同的底线》should by this token be rendered _The Common Baseline_ rather than _The Common Bottom Line_. (Freedom is in fact Qin's 'baseline value').
